The goal for the project was to design and construct a thriving retail development within Brooklyn that would match the large retail developments in the suburbs and draw upon the surrounding neighborhood to provide facilities that were previously unavailable.
The existing rooms were completely gutted down to the bare frame and all new walls, finishes, plumbing fixtures, energy efficient lighting, ventilation equipment and ductwork, fire alarm, and sprinkler system were installed. Studio 5 prepared design presentations for the various college stakeholders and in-house design staff and was able to build consensus on project decisions in a timely manner.
By carefully selecting water and energy efficient fixtures we were able to reduce projected water use by 70% and energy use by over 50%. Working within an aggressive schedule and tight budget, Studio 5 worked closely with the Rutgers Housing and Facilities staff and the contractor to complete this project on time, allowing for student occupancy on the committed move-in date, and within the college’s budget.
