Franklin Crossing
Franklin Lakes, New Jersey
The Franklin Crossing Shopping Center replaced a thirty-year-old center deemed wholly inadequate for the needs of the community it served.
Studio 5 Partnerships design of the new center includes a 42,000 square foot Super Stop and Shop Supermarket, 40,000 square feet of adjacent retail space for various merchants and a freestanding 3,000 square foot bank building.
Studio 5 Partnership selected brick as the primary building material because of its texture and color as well as the flexibility and scalability that a brick module inherently has. The center has been well received by the community and the Mayor of Franklin Lakes and was nominated for a “Good Neighbor Award”.
To eliminate the concerns of the Franklin Lakes Planning Board about the intrusion of a shopping center within an upscale residential community, the proposed design placed the buildings back on the site, used brick and stucco materials for the façade and asphalt shingle roofs. The scale of the elements kept the overall look residential.
