Rahway Rail Station and Plaza
Rahway, New Jersey
Members of the Studio 5 Partnership were key participants in the design and development of the construction documents for this important urban project.
As envisioned by the Mayor of Rahway, this rail station would spark the redevelopment of downtown Rahway and become the cornerstone for the community.
The project was unique in many ways. The station itself was nearly three stories above the street level, the ticket sales were a story below, along a tunnel that connected both sides of the raised tracks was included in the design; finally, the Plaza level was designed to accommodate new commercial ventures including a 24-hour taxi service which would improve the sense of security.
The design selected represented a departure for NJ Transit with the many unique features that were included, not the least of which was the distinctive clock tower and ornamental metal work throughout the project.
