CUNY Hostos Community College Classrooms and Offices

560 Exterior Street, Bronx, New York

Studio 5 provided the design for classrooms and administrative offices for CUNY’s Hostos Community College’s Division of Continuing Education and Workforce Development.

Located in the historic, newly renovated Prow Building in the LEED© Silver Certified Bronx Terminal Market right down the block from the Hostos main campus.

Prior to the renovation for CUNY, the space housed a wholesale fruit and vegetable market popular with the local community. This adaptive re-use project completely renovated the existing building shell and provided four classrooms and administrative office space for this separate division within the school. This Division delivers educational and job training services to individuals not served by the traditional instructional activities of the College.

Studio 5 designed the entire facility including interior design, selection of furniture and fixtures as well as and provided construction stage services. Attentive space planning allowed for job training classrooms to operate after hours, when the administrative offices are closed, while minimizing repetitive circulation space and maximizing usable square footage. The design includes a dramatic two-story space housing the public reception and administrative areas.
