Congregation Gates of Prayer

Metairie, Louisiana

Members of Studio 5 Partnership designed and expanded this temple for a New Orleans congregation that traces its origins back to the Civil War.

In developing our solution, new elements were designed to blend with existing ones so that the entire project "feels" complete and homogeneous.

The site plan was reorganized so the building entry now faces the parking lot where everyone arrives rather than the public street as in the original building. New school and office elements were incorporated into the design so that the school wing faced the playground and the office wing over-sees the entry and parking lot.

The project included renovations to many portions of the building to improve prior faults or inconveniences. The project was hailed by the Congregation.

Following Hurricane Katrina, we learned that areas of the building were severely damaged, but they will use our plans to rebuild.
